
Cardboard Chair Affair: Results
1st Annual Cardboard Chair Design/Build Student Competition
Cardboard never looked this good––really. After less than 40 hours of intense designing and hard work, the chairs are complete. Now, the official results are in. I would like to applaud all those who participated in the project as it was both a fantastic event and an exciting example of Five College collaboration. The results represent rankings by our five faculty/professional jurors: Karen Koehler, Gary Orlinsky, Jim Middlebrook, Nina Antonetti and Thom Long.
Most Unique/Inventive Design:
The most daring, unique and creative response to the challenges of the project, based on aesthetics and inventive character.
1st Prize gets a 30$ Gift Certificate to the Guild Art Store
1st Place: Chair #4- Egg Cradle Rocker
2nd Place: Chair #1- Rearrangeable Layer Chair
3rd Place Tie: Chair #3- Sushi Cusion Chair, Chair #2- Carved Cube Chair & Footrest/Table
Most Effective Design:
The best use of materials to achieve the most comfortable and structurally effective design.
1st Prize gets Free Ice Cream at Bart's (about a dozen)
1st Place: Chair #2- Carved Cube Chair & Footrest/Table
2nd Place: Chair #3- Sushi Cusion Chair
3rd Place: Chair #1- Rearrangeable Layer
Overall design:
The main prize: the best overall design, including aesthetics, inventiveness, comfort and quality.
1st Prize gets a high quality coffee maker to assist in many more late nights in the studio.
1st Place: Chair #2- Carved Cube Chair & Footrest/Table
2nd Place Tie: Chair #3- Sushi Cusion Chair, Chair #1: Rearrangeable Layer
3rd Place: Chair #4- Egg Cradle Rocker
